VISTA, Calif. – Former NFL star Kellen Winslow II soon will face his day of reckoning after being convicted of multiple sex crimes, including raping a 58-year-old homeless woman in 2018 and raping a 17-year-old unconscious woman in 2003.

Will he get the maximum 18 years behind bars under terms of his plea agreement?

Or will he get as few as 12, possibly out of consideration for the brain injuries he suffered during his football career?

A San Diego County judge will make the call after a sentencing hearing here scheduled for Feb. 19. But the fallout against him has continued in the meantime, further dismantling his once-charmed life inside and outside of jail. Last Friday, the prosecutor in the case also asked the judge to throw the book at him in a 12-page written argument filed in court.

“The People strongly urge the court to impose the maximum sentence prescribed by law,” San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Dan Owens wrote.

Among the developments:

►After reaching a plea agreement to end his case in November, Winslow, 36, was transferred to a different, less comfortable jail in south San Diego County, a maximum security facility a few miles north of the Mexican border. Shortly thereafter, Winslow wanted to go back to the jail in Vista in north San Diego County, where he previously had been incarcerated as he awaited trial.
