Faye Marie Swetlik killed by Coty Taylor, South Carolina officials say

Police detail how search for missing S.C. girl ended

CAYCE, S.C. – Autopsy results show 6-year-old Faye Marie Swetlik of Cayce, South Carolina, died of asphyxiation and was killed by Coty Scott Taylor who lived nearby Faye’s home, authorities announced Tuesday

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Faye’s death was determined to be a homicide and took place within a few hours of her abduction days before her body was found.

Faye was last seen playing in her yard Feb. 10 before she was reported missing. A multi-agency search involving more than 300 law enforcement officers spanned three days and centered on an area within about a mile of the first-grader’s home.

Investigators interviewed Taylor — 30, the man they believe to be responsible for Faye’s death — on Wednesday. Taylor lived just 100 to 150 feet from Faye’s home.

Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove said Taylor was cooperative and gave them permission to search inside his home. Investigators did not find anything at the home that suggested Taylor was connected to the case at that time,  Snellgrove said.
