“Stranger Things” is returning to Netflix soon – and so is this major character.
At the end of the show’s third season, Chief Jim Hopper (Harbour) met an explosive fate as he and Joyce (Winona Ryder) tried to close the gate to the Upside Down and kill the Mind Flayer targeting Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
At the moment of the explosion, fans saw Soviet scientists dissolve into tiny pieces, and Hopper disappeared in a flash.
But Hopper fans can rejoice! The Hawkins, Indiana, police chief is back for Season 4, the show’s creators the Duffer Brothers confirmed Friday.
“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American,’ ” Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer said.
The show also released a 50-second teaser trailer, zooming in on a snowy work camp with barking dogs and armed guards. One of the workers? None other than Hopper.
“He is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other,” the Duffers said of Hopper. “Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything …”
The show teased Hopper’s potential survival in the final minutes of Season 3, showing a Russian prison where guards discuss “the American.”
“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime – pray for the American,” the Duffers said, signing the release “From Russia with love.”
The third installment of the sci-fi series was the second most-popular title on Netflix for 2019, the streaming service said. Season 3 streamed last July, but no release date for the upcoming series has been announced.
