Woman learned family died after coma

An Australia woman awoke from a coma that lasted nearly two months to find out that her family had died in the New Zealand volcano eruption that left her critically injured and 21 others dead.

Lisa Dallow, 48, of Adelaide, Australia, awoke from a medically-induced coma two weeks ago, according to 7News in Australia and the Australian Broadcasting Company, when she discovered that her husband Gavin Dallow, 53, and daughter Zoe Hosking, 25, were killed on the island Dec. 9.

A representative for the family, who first confirmed the news to multiple news outlets Monday, told Australia’s News Corp that “it took a while” to process the news and that she was in disbelief.

Dallow sustained burns on more than half of her body. She received specialized burn care at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, and is currently in “serious but stable condition,” according to ABC and Australia’s 9News.

A funeral service for Hosking, reported 7News, will be delayed until her mother recovers. A memorial for her husband, Gavin, was held last month with hundreds in attendance, ABC reported.

Of the 47 people on the island at the time of the disaster, 21 people in total were killed.

Her last memory following the tragedy, per 7News, was being loaded onto a helicopter after getting hit by boulders falling after the explosion.
