Let the battle begin.
“I was so excited to join this season as a coach of ‘The Voice,'” Jonas said in a first look exclusive to USA TODAY. “I’m having fun on set, and I think people are going to have fun watching at home.”
Returning coaches and fellow music stars Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton welcomed Jonas to the NBC show with open arms, but that doesn’t mean he was exempt from some good old fashioned hazing.
In the preview, the rookie endured some teasing at the hands of Shelton, who has some seniority as the last original coach on the show.
“So it begins,” quipped Jonas, who is replacing Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani.
The pair eventually kissed and made up – literally. “Are we friends now?” Jonas asked Shelton, who leaned in for a long embrace and smooch on the cheek: “Of course we’re friends.”
Jonas quickly wiped his face as Clarkson advised, “Never go in for a hug.”
Jonas has some stiff competition. Reigning champion Clarkson has won three times during her four seasons as a coach. Legend has held up the coveted trophy once in his two seasons and Shelton has won a whopping six times over the course of 17 seasons, making him the winningest coach in “Voice” history.
“We are trying to show him the ropes without letting him defeat us,” Legend said.
